Vancouver Highlights (August 2013) Part 1

During summer last year, mum came over to Canada for 2 weeks of holiday ( which meant that in the middle of my research trial, I also went for a holiday ! ). So, our two weeks plan included Vancouver, Whistler and Victoria. First, unless you wouldn't mind hostels, accommodation in hotels are pretty expensive ( conversion conversion conversion ) what more with the outrageous taxes ! So I tried something new; a vacation rental from Airbnb. Found this nice studio apartment located at Gastown-Chinatown owned by Keith. Keith's place wins hands-down compared to all the hotels that I researched for. To be at the centre of attraction, majority of the hotels are super-expensive; unless of course if you have limited time. But since we were planning to explore Downtown Vancouver for a week, that would not be a wise option. For $100/night, its totally awesome ( no taxes! ). Keith was not able to meet us when we arrived due to work so he had a nice man meeting us at the lobby. He showed us around the apartment, how to use the washer, dryer and portable air-con ( it was summer!) and even had two complimentary subway tickets for us ! Awesome awesome ! Fridge was stocked up with fruits, milk, jam, butter, bagel, bread and coffee and cereals were provided as well. Such warm welcome and and pleasant surprise!

Location-wise, this is way better than other hotels ( I didn't have much idea before that but once we actually explore the town, I realized that those cheaper hotels that were in my initial options were totally in the middle of nowhere. This apartment building is located at the edge of Gastown together with a couple more apartment buildings. Chinatown is right at the corner; 1-2km walk to Waterfront station ( main subway terminal ), Vancouver Tower and Canada's Place. Oh, did I mention as well that the view from this apartment unit is amazing !
It's better than a hotel suite !
Well-stocked kitchen ! Keurigs ! Stove ! Utensils!
A little office space
Awesome view!
A view of Sun Yat Sen Garden from apartment balcony!
Chinatown is right at the corner
Night market on Fridays and weekends
Keith's place is definitely worth trying out !
